Pre-Operative Anesthesia Instructions
To ensure your safety and comfort during intravenous (IV) anesthesia or sedation, please strictly follow these pre-operative guidelines prior to your appointment.
Fasting & Preparation Timing
- No Food or Drink: Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 8 hours prior to your scheduled procedure time.
- No Smoking: Refrain from smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. We strongly recommend reducing or stopping smoking as early as possible before your procedure date.
Transportation & Caregiver Requirements
- Responsible Escort Required: A responsible adult companion must accompany you to the office, remain in the waiting area for the duration of your surgery, and drive you home safely afterward.
- 24-Hour Restriction: You must not operate a vehicle, machinery, or sign important documents for 24 hours following your anesthesia.
Day-of-Surgery Attire & Personal Items
- Clothing: Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing with short sleeves or sleeves that easily roll up past the elbows, along with flat, low-heeled shoes.
- Cosmetics: Do not wear lipstick, heavy makeup, perfume, or nail polish on the day of your appointment.
- Removable Items: Contact lenses, jewelry/piercings, and removable dental appliances (dentures) must be removed prior to entering the surgical suite.
Health Status & Daily Medications
- Recent Illness: If you develop an illness such as a cold, sore throat, fever, stomach bug, or upset bowels leading up to your appointment, please contact our office immediately.
- Routine Prescription Medications: If you take daily prescription medications, please discuss them with Drs. Byron or William Black prior to your surgery date for specific instructions on what to take the morning of your procedure.
